Chelmsford, UK — Global Marine Systems has been awarded the 2008 Business Weekly's East of England Business Award in the category of International Trade. This award is given annually to that company which has notably launched and/or expanded their international operations in the past 12 months or significantly broadened their access to global markets with new products or services.

With headquarters in the UK and operations around the world, Global Marine Systems is the largest independent provider of submarine cable installation, maintenance and related engineering services in the world.

In 2008 Global Marine Systems made significant steps to increase its international presence. A new joint venture with Chinese telecommunications equipment manufacturer Huawei Technologies, called Huawei Marine Networks is an important new entry in the area of subsea telecommunications equipment and subsea network installation around the globe.

Also in 2008, Global Marine Systems announced a unique partnership with a leading Dutch marine engineering company, Visser & Smit Marine Contracting. Together this partnership brings world-class subsea power cable installation expertise to the emerging and increasingly critical offshore renewable energy market, which is core to the energy future of both the UK and Europe.

“The employees of Global Marine have worked tirelessly to bring us to this point,” said Gabriel Ruhan, CEO Global Marine Systems. “We greatly appreciate the recognition of their hard work which this Business Weekly award represents”

The awards were announced at a presentation evening held at Queen's College, Cambridge, UK on March 19th, 2009.
