Martha's Vineyard-based GPCS Fiber Communications is looking to build a new fiber-optic system that would exclusively serve the Island according to a Vinyard Gazette article.  Its plan calls for approximately 26,600 yards (about 15 miles) of submarine fiber-optic cable to be laid from Fairhaven to the Island via Woods Hole.
