Algeria's post and ICT minister Imane Houda Feraoun has announced that work on the deployment of a submarine fibre-optic cable connection between Algeria and Spain will finally begin at the end of the year, reports Ecofin. The project, which dates from 2009 but was delayed due to administrative problems, will finally see two sections rolled out: one from Oran in Algeria to Valencia in Spain at a cost of EUR 26 million and another from Algiers to Valencia at a cost of EUR 10 million. Work on the submarine cable system is expected to last 14 months.
