Australia's Academic and Research Network (Aarnet) and Southern Cross Cable Network have completed the upgrade to the northern path of the SXTransPort submarine optical fibre link connecting Sydney to North America. This upgrade boosts bandwidth from 10s to 40 Gbps. The AARNet/Southern Cross Cable Network partnership is also playing a role in projects related to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), such as the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder and the Murchison Widefield Array.
