By Ace June Rell S. Perez, Sun.Star A CABLE system project that will interconnect four countries comprising the BIMP-Eaga sub-economic region will soon break ground after its launch in Davao City on August 19.

The Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines- East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) Submarine Terrestrial (Best) Cable System will be the focus of BIMP-Eaga ICT Cluster Meeting set at SMX Convention Center on that day.

“The top issue that we will be focusing during the meeting will be the Best cable system as it's groundbreaking in Parang, Maguindanao is targeted on the first quarter of 2016,” Edgardo R. Celorico, country head of the BIMP-Eaga ICT division, said in Wednesday's signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the ICT Davao Inc.

The MOA provides funding for the hosting of cluster meeting, CEO Forum and Livelihood Exchange (Livex) 2015, amounting to P2.7 million.

The Best Cable System, initiated by Best Cable Corp. Pte. Ltd. (BCC), “is a regional 5,092 kilometer high bandwidth fiber optics cable system that allows telecommunication connectivity in the BIMP-Eaga region with the rest of the Asean and Asian countries, particularly Singapore, HongKong and US.”

It will link BIMP-Eaga region specifically Brunei, Sabah, Malaysia, Southern Philippines and Kalimantan in Indonesia, with extension to Guam that will connect with the US and the rest of Asean countries.
