Our History

Our History

SubTel Forum was founded in 2001 during a pivotal moment in the submarine cable industry. Recognizing the need for a dedicated platform to foster discussion and knowledge-sharing, industry veterans Wayne Nielsen and Ted Breeze launched the publication with a bold vision: to provide a freely accessible forum for professionals in submarine optical fiber technologies. Despite launching amid an industry downturn, SubTel Forum quickly gained traction, with its first issue featuring eight articles and seven complimentary advertisements—an early testament to the trust and support of the submarine cable community.

Over the years, SubTel Forum has grown from a small industry magazine into the leading digital platform for submarine cable insights. Expanding beyond its original publication, it now offers an extensive suite of resources, including daily news coverage, analytical reports, and interactive media, all while remaining committed to its founding principles: providing a wide range of perspectives and sparking informed discussions that entertain, educate, and provoke thought. Today, SubTel Forum continues to be the voice of the industry, serving a global audience and shaping conversations around the future of submarine telecom networks.
