Ciena’s Mike Adams (right) accepts the award for “Best Optical Submarine Product” on behalf of the entire Ciena GeoMesh team.
Last week at the WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking Conference in Monaco, Ciena’s GeoMesh solution walked away with an award for “Best Optical Submarine Product.”
The award was presented as part of an awards dinner ceremony last Tuesday evening, with Ciena’s Mike Adams receiving the award on behalf of the entire team (see picture below).
It’s the second year in a row that Ciena has taken home a Next Generation Optical Networking Award from the event, as last year Ciena’s WaveLogic 3 won for Best 100G Optical Product (see Ciena 100G wins Next Generation Optical Award).
Ciena is certainly no stranger to industry awards, but they typically center on one of Ciena’s innovative products – including recent awards for our 3902, WaveLogic 3, or3931 (see all our awards here). What makes this new award unique is that GeoMesh is not so much a single product as it is a complete solution that changes the way submarine cable networks are built.
GeoMesh allows network operators to view their submarine and terrestrial networks as a single end-to-end optical network from PoP-to-PoP, with wet and dry fiber in between, which yields significant capital and operational benefits (see What is a GeoMesh Network?).
Since Ciena first started talking about GeoMesh networks late last year, submarine network operators like Reliance Globalcom, GFC and Farice have deployed GeoMesh networks. In addition, the recent unveiling of our new trans-Pacific 100G WaveLogic 3 submarine transponder makes truly global GeoMesh networks possible at even across the longest submarine spans.
Congratulations go out to the GeoMesh team – including members from R&D, PLM, and Marketing – who have worked so hard to bring GeoMesh to market and make it a true game-changer in the rapidly evolving submarine cable networks industry.
