A second fiber optic cable is being planned for American Samoa.  According to an article on samoanews.com, this cable is planned for early 2011.  When Aleki Sene Sr, Executive Director for the American Samoa TeleCommunications Authority (ASTCA) appeared recently before the Fono Joint Budget Committee for a review of the ASTCA FY2010 budget, he discussed the benefits of a second submarine cable to provide redundancy for the SPIN system, due to arrive in 2011.
