The provisional authority of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) to operate the Asia America Gateway (AAG) submarine cable has been extended until 2012 by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).  According to a story by Business Mirror, this extension will benefit the Philippines by providing capacity to meet increasing bandwidth demand as well as providing redundancy for other submarine cable systems break down.
