Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT) has completed the rollout of submarine fiber-optic cables linking Western Visayas to Palawan province.
In a statement, PLDT said it has spent P861 million for the 300-kilometer undersea fiber-optic cable project that extends from Taytay in Palawan to San Jose de Buenavista in Iloilo — one of the telco's major hubs within its domestic fiber optic network (DFON).
Napoleon Nazareno, PLDT president and chief executive, said the new fiber-optic facilities will enable the telco to provide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) facilities that deliver multimedia-rich services and also support the operations of wireless subsidiaries Smart Communications and Sun Cellular, particularly the deployment of Long Term Evolution (LTE) service for mobile subscribers in Palawan.
