The Nassau Guardian is reporting that the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), a company that spent $6 million in 2006 to construct a submarine cable to Haiti, has signed an agreement with Teleco D'Haiti.  “The line is there [and] in operation… fully functional and transmitting data traffic out of Haiti into The Bahamas and from The Bahamas to the U.S. and has customers on it,” Marlon Johnson, VP of Communications said.
“By the end of the year, I feel confident that we would have at least five major customers on the line and that would put us in line with what we projected to do,” he went on to say. “We're signing customers up to it now, these are very large customers so they move slower.”
