A French ship carrying the cable for a $63.4 million undersea fiberoptic link between Venezuela and Cuba is on the way to Venezuela, according to a Cuba Standard article.  The Île de Batz left the port of Calais Jan. 12 with 1,630 km of cable on board. The vessel, scheduled to begin laying the cable in Venezuela by Jan. 20, is equipped with cable-laying technology and an undersea robot.
