KDDI Corp and Google Inc. announced Thursday that they will cooperate to lay a new submarine cable connecting Japan and Singapore.  According to an article on ANTARA News, the new system is slated for completion in 2012 and will cost and estimated US$400 million.  It will initially provide 17 terabits per second of bandwidth, but could be expanded to 23 terabits, which would make it the highest-capacity submarine cable in all of Asia.
