LYMINGTON, United Kingdom–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) will be holding its 2015 Plenary over 28-30, April 2015 at Le Méridien Cyberport in Telegraph Bay, Hong Kong. With the central theme, Enhancing Submarine Cable Security and Co-operation in Balance with the Environment, the Plenary will provide a valuable meeting point for all sectors of the submarine cable industry to gather and exchange ideas in a region steeped in submarine cable history and rooted in 21st century technological development.
The Plenary is an apt setting for such timely discussions. The installation of submarine power cables is growing rapidly as nations turn to the generation of offshore renewable energy to meet increasing demand, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and obtain secure energy supplies. Likewise, submarine telecommunications cables are now the planet’s electronic backbone carrying over 95% of international voice and data traffic—everything from e-mails to downloaded movies. Protection and effective operation of this critical infrastructure is essential in the face of encroaching legislation, increasing offshore activities and environmental change. With over half the world’s population located in Asia and with direct access to a large proportion of the world’s international submarine cables, the ICPC Plenary is perfectly situated to support the regional interests of those who rely so heavily on such critical infrastructure for commerce, information and power.
