Telecomasia.net is reporting that SP Telemedia has made an offer to purchase PIPE Networks for A$373 million ($344m).  PIPE operates the new PPC-1 Sydney-Guam cable, which was completed last week, as well as a dark fiber network in Australia’s largest cities.  Many of PIPE's customers (smaller ISPs and data center operators) have expressed concerns that SP Telemedia will increase prices for wholesale accesses to its retail competitors. The transaction has been approved by the boards of both companies, and the deal should close by April 2010 if shareholder and regulatory approval is granted.
