NEW YORK, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ — Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), the largest mobile phone operator in Russia and the CIS, announced today that it has selected Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR) as its global communications partner. The account was won after a global competitive pitch at the end of last year and will be led out of the agency's London and New York offices.

“Following our agency review, we selected the team at Ogilvy PR based on the strength of their strategic thinking and approach as well as Ogilvy PR's global credentials,” said Andrei Terebenin, Vice President of Corporate Communications at MTS.

“Focusing on multi-regional accounts completely plays to our strength as a network agency. MTS is also a key example of the recent development of an increasing number of new business opportunities coming out of emerging markets,” says Ogilvy PR's Global Corporate Practice Director Kiersten Zweibaum.

“The win is an enormous success for our tech PR practice and builds on our telecoms and tech sector expertise,” adds Siobhan Aalders, Senior Vice President of Ogilvy PR's New York Technology group.

Won after a two-stage global pitch, the corporate retainer work for MTS, which services over 91 million subscribers in the fast growing Russia and the CIS markets, began in February. Ogilvy PR will focus on intensive corporate positioning with influencers in Europe and the U.S. supporting the company's global outreach efforts.
