Press Release
Phnom Penh: Telcotech, an EZECOM company, is hosting a press conference on Malaysia-Thailand-Cambodia (MCT) Progress on October 25, 2016 at Cambodiana Hotel.
Malaysia-Cambodia-Thailand (MCT) submarine cable was announced in June 2013 and is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2017. MCT cable system spans approximately 1,300 kilometers and will position Cambodia as the gateway to Asia which enable Cambodia to harvest the Asia traffic and extend the connectivity to ASEAN and the rest of the world via Malaysia.
The MCT cable system will land at Sihanoukville, Cambodia, Rayong, Thailand, and Kuantan (Cherating), Malaysia respectively. The Landing Stations in all three countries are completed and ready to receive the cable. The special freighter with MCT Submarine Cable, complete with Repeaters, Branching Units and Spares have arrived on 13th Oct 2016 at Pasir Gudang Port in Malaysia. The cable system is now being transferred to the Main Lay Vessel, Bold Marverick before proceeding to immediate deployment from Cherating, Malaysia.
The submarine cable will adopt state-of-the-art 100 Gbps technology and will support a capacity of at least 30 Tbps. It will connect to other submarine cable systems, including Telcotech, the sole Cambodian member of Asia-America Gateway and the 20,000 kilometer submarine communication cable that connects South East Asia to the United States.
In addition to improving internet speeds and overall communications, there will also be other benefits. The tie-up with Thailand and Malaysia will allow Cambodia to have open access to licensed operators in each of the participating countries resulting in greater efficiency and reduced tariffs for those in the region.
“We are very excited to announce that Cambodia’s first submarine cable is about to arrive and EZECOM will be the first ISP in Cambodia to own this submarine cable. We are going to launch landing station building in Sihanouk Ville on December 16, 2016” said Mr. Yves Schaeffer, CEO of EZECOM. “MCT is expected to cement Cambodia’s ICT future by improving Cambodia’s independence in telecommunications and internet connectivity as well as improve the country’s overall communications capabilities” he added.
H.E. Moa Chakrya, Chairman of Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia also presents as a guest speaker for the press conference. During his speech, he expresses a warm welcoming upon MCT arrival.
“On behalf of Telecommunication Regulator of Cambodia, I would like to congratulate Telcotech in bringing the first submarine cable to Cambodia. I believe that the arrival of MCT will generate positive impacts on telecommunication industry in Cambodia and bring about more investment flow to the country as well”, he said.
