A month-long operation is currently underway to divert a fibre-optic cable between the UK and Spain to the island group, which sits off the coast of Cornwall.

The 12,184-tonne cable ship Resolute has cut the cable at two points in the Atlantic – about 100km and 15km off Lands End – and diverted a section to the Isles of Scilly.

The cable will be pulled ashore on Thursday July 24th and linked to the local network, laying the foundations for super-fast broadband for local homes and businesses.
