In spite of the landing of two submarine cables in Nigeria- Glo 1 and MainOne, cost of accessing Internet remains punitive with snail speed, LUKAS AJANAKU of the Nigerian Compass writes. When Felix Momodebe bought a modem from one of the service providers for N10,000 a few months ago, he thought his problems with accessing the Internet were over, especially when he owns a laptop. For him, he would no longer have the need to go to the cybercafé where he would be exposing himself to the dangers of being arrested by policemen who occasionally go raiding in search of cyber crooks and mixing with unscrupulous elements whose stock in trade is browsing pornographic and other indecent sites. So he thought.  But he was rudely disappointed when the N5,000 subscription plan he subscribed to got exhausted within three days.
“Aside the slow speed, the N5,000 I paid got used up in just about three days. When I contacted my service provider, I was told I had exhausted the megabytes that my plan had to offer. I was shocked because the impression I got was that I would to be able to access the Internet for one month,†he lamented.
