A submarine cable solution is not an economically viable option for HidroAysén, according to Joaquín Galindo, CEO of Endesa Chile, the major partner in the JV behind the 2.75GW hydro project in southern Chile. Energía Austral, in an effort to reduce environmental impact and the opposition to its own project in Patagonia, is evaluating a submarine option to solve the project's transmission conundrum. Galindo said he was interested in learning more about Energia Austral's studies given Endesa Chile does not think it is an economically viable option, according to local press.
