The Arabian Gulf is to benefit from enhanced international subsea communications connectivity from next year, thanks to an agreement between Gulf Bridge International (GBI), the privately-owned Middle East submarine cable operator and Interoute of Europe according to a RapidTV News article. Â The GBI fibre optic cable system, which is planned for launch in 2011 and designed to operate for up to 25 years, will interconnect all the countries of the Arabian Gulf and then provide onward connectivity with Europe and Asia. There will be up to 5 terabits per second on certain cable sections, according to the company, in order to meet the rapid growth in internet demand forecast for the Gulf region.
