What: ITU TELECOM WORLD 2009: the defining event for the world's ICT community.
When: 5-9 October, 2009

Why: ITU TELECOM WORLD 2009 will bring together high level participants, including Heads of State, Heads of UN Agencies, Ministers, CEOs and other key industry players to share views on key issues around the role and positioning of the ICT sector for global recovery.It will also showcase companies from across the full spectrum of the ICT industry and feature pavilions from around the world. Thematic pavilions will spotlight different aspects of the ICT industry.

Under the theme “Open Networks, Connected Minds” the event will explore the trends and technologies that are driving the ICT sector. ITU TELECOM WORLD 2009 will be a critical milestone for the ICT industry.

Who: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, plus a number of confirmed Heads of State.Leading Exhibitors including China Mobile, China Unicom, Cisco, Fujitsu, Huawei, NTT & NTT DoCoMo, Samsung, Saudi Telecom Company (STC), TDIA and ZTE amongst others.

Top-level industry participants including John Chambers (Cisco), Carl-Henric Svanberg (Ericsson), Ben Verwaayen (Alcatel-Lucent) and Wang Jianzhou (China Mobile).

National and regional pavilions – showcasing ICT sectors from around the world – including Azerbaijan, Belgium, China, Egypt, France, Republic of Korea, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the UK and the Lake Geneva Region.

Thematic pavilions focusing on ICT solutions for e-Health (WHO), Green@ICT (WMO), Internet Society, Transport & Access (a showcase of ITU standards in action), Empowering People with Disabilities through ICTs (UNESCO).
