EASSy’s problems are continuing with three cable breaks affecting connectivity to the cable system’s clients.
Industry feedback confirms that cable breaks occurred on the East Africa Submarine System (EASSy), SEA-ME-WE 3 (SMW3) and the Europe India Gateway (EIG). These cable breaks all occurred in the Gulf of Aden on 17th February 2012.
According to a well placed industry source the breaks may have been caused by a cargo ship that dragged its anchor over the area where all these cables lie on the seabed.
