The Indonesian ICT ministry plans to set-up a taskforce to tackle theft of submarine telecommunications cables. The taskforce would combine agencies and institutions with maritime jurisdictions, The Jakarta Post reports. The plan follows a recent theft of submarine cable reported by communications provider Indosat, which lost almost 32 kilometres of its submarine cable linking Indonesia with Singarpore. Police have arrested seven people that were allegedly involved in the theft.
