Explore SubTel Forum's first-ever Cableship Codex, profiling 50 cable ships and support vessels through AIS-derived activity analysis, fleet data, and geospatial mapping.

Sterling, Virginia – Submarine Telecoms Forum, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the inaugural edition of the Cableship Codex, a new publication dedicated to tracking and analyzing the vessels that install, maintain, repair, and support the world's submarine cable infrastructure.

Published biannually, the Cableship Codex provides a structured view of the global cable ship fleet through verified vessel specifications, AIS-derived activity analysis, geospatial mapping, and operational assessment. The first edition profiles 50 cable ships and subsea support vessels operating across the submarine telecommunications industry.

Developed using a structured research framework, the publication combines vessel identification, AIS-derived movement analysis, geospatial interpretation, and industry expertise to better understand fleet deployment patterns and operational activity. Vessel records include ownership and operator information, technical specifications, observed operating regions, activity metrics, and mapped activity concentrations.

This inaugural edition also includes fleet-wide analytics examining vessel age, flag-state distribution, speed characteristics, operational density, and geographic deployment trends across major submarine cable regions.

The Cableship Codex was created to provide greater visibility into the marine assets supporting global subsea communications infrastructure and to establish a consistent reference for cable ship activity, capability, and deployment worldwide.

As part of our ongoing commitment to data accuracy and industry collaboration, we encourage contributions from vessel operators and industry professionals.

If you are aware of vessel updates, corrections, or additional fleet information that should be included in future editions, please contact Kieran Clark at [email protected].
