The operator has recently signed a slew of agreements with other service providers, most recently three in Angola, to boost its capacity and reach
Telecom Namibia continues to expand its satellite and subsea cable connectivity with Angola via three separate agreements.
First, it signed a master service agreement (MSA) with Angola Telecom and SATCAB to integrate the Southern African Regional Submarine System (SARSSy) with the Equiano Cable System.
The intention is to interconnect the SARSSy cable project with the Equiano cable at Telecom Namibia’s Swakopmund landing station to provide more international capacity to Namibia, Angola and other countries along the west coast of southern Africa.
Under the MSA, Telecom Namibia will serve as the landing party for SARSSy and host and support the infrastructure at its landing station in Swakopmund, including Angola Telecom’s equipment.
Everyone’s a winner
Angola Telecom said the partnership model gives it the flexibility to expand capacity and potentially assume ownership of infrastructure components gradually.
Telecom Namibia is to supply Angola Telecom with an initial, dedicated transmission capacity of 1Tbps on the Equiano cable as part of the agreement.
SATCAB is to “play a key role in the delivery of the system”, but no details were given.
From intent to implementation
The MSA builds on the MoU and commercial terms agreement (CTA) signed by Telecom Namibia and Angola Telecom in April, rapidly moving from strategic intent to implementation.
Earlier in the month, the telco signed lease deals with open-access fibre infrastructure providers Lightstruck and Demshi to expand its fibre broadband business.
Angosat-2 satellite pilot
The third new agreement is to run a pilot commercial agreement (PCA) with GGPEN is to use the Angosat-2 satellite platform to expand access to digital services across Namibia and southern Africa. The PCA marks the transition from a proof of concept to trialling services provided by the Angosat-2 satellite on the network.
