Hexatronic Expands Submarine Cable Capacity to Support Offshore Wind Growth

Hexatronic Group is investing in a new submarine fibre-optic cable production line in Sweden, more than doubling its manufacturing capacity to meet increasing demand from offshore wind and subsea communications projects.
The new production line will be installed at the company's Hudiksvall facility and is expected to begin service in 2028. Once operational, it aims to increase Hexatronic's annual submarine cable production capacity from around SEK150-200 million to more than SEK500 million, depending on product mix.
The investment forms part of a long-term supply agreement with Danish power cable manufacturer NKT. A significant share of this new capacity will go on to support NKT's offshore energy projects through 2032.
“The demand for submarine cable solutions continues to grow, driven by the electrification and digitalisation of society, offshore energy projects, and the increased need for robust communication infrastructure.” Says Rikard Fröberg, President and CEO of Hexatronic Group.
This project strengthens Europe's offshore wind supply chain at a time when developers and equipment manufacturers are seeking to expand domestic production capacity to support the next generation of offshore wind projects.
