Keppel Secures Kruger Cable Licence

Keppel has received Singapore regulatory authorisation for its proposed Kruger Cable System, a step toward a westbound link between Singapore and the Middle East. Computer Weekly reports that the FBO approval gives the company a legal basis to run the Singapore-side communications facilities associated with the proposed system.

Kruger is expected to span Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh and India before reaching Salalah, Oman, with additional South Asian branches. Its Singapore landing is planned for Tuas, at the beach manhole also used by Bifrost. Keppel considers the approval an enabler as it works toward a final investment decision and seeks third-party capital through its private infrastructure fund. The route is intended to support capacity demand across multiple regional markets rather than a single bilateral connection.

Some early physical preparations have already been completed. Keppel placed a short cable stub from shore to an offshore connection point for a later vessel operation, while related landing-path work continues at Tuas. The project remains pre-construction and dependent on investment approval, with a decision expected later this year. For owners and operators, the authorisation matters because it establishes a regulatory foothold at a key landing jurisdiction for a prospective South Asia–Middle East connectivity corridor and wider regional resilience.
