Angola Cables and EllaLink Collaborate to Significantly Reduce Latencies for Peering, IP Transit, and Content Sharing Between Latin America and Europe

Angola Cables, EllaLink Press Release
March 14, 2024

São Paulo, Brazil 13 March 2023:  An agreement between Angola Cables and EllaLink, combining transmission capacity on the Monet and EllaLink subsea cables will see a dramatic latency reduction for Peering and IP Transit services from Brazil to Europe. The reduction in latency on the submarine route will reach up to 51% from São Paulo to Lisbon and 60% from Fortaleza improving the end-to-end connectivity options to the main data exchange markets in Europe from hubs such as London and Amsterdam, to Frankfurt or Madrid.

With a transatlantic latency of less than 60~ms, the EllaLink submarine cable delivers low latency, secure, high-capacity connectivity between Latin America and Europe, linking Sines, Lisbon, Madrid, and Marseille, in Europe, with Fortaleza, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.

Angola Cables and EllaLink partner to reduce latency between South America and Europe, leveraging the Monet and EllaLink cables.

Angola Cables CEO, Ângelo Gama, says that such latency reductions hold considerable benefits when it comes to content sharing, cloud services, financial services, gaming and entertainment.  Any reduction in latency has a bearing on the effective throughput of the connections improving the real-time delivery of contents as well as the streaming of high-definition digital content that finally provide a better customer experience.

Gama added that these developments will enhance opportunities for Angola Cables customers in particular “to offer Peering and IP Transit services to deliver and promote contents for Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries on each side of the Atlantic – at the lowest available latencies.”

“This can help bring Latin American countries closer together and reach far wider international audiences from Miami in the US – where the Monet submarine cable lands, to South America with a direct connection through the EllaLink Submarine cable to hubs in Spain, Portugal and other main destinations across Europe and the UK.”

According to Philippe Dumont, CEO at EllaLink, both Angola Cables and EllaLink provide robust differentiation for international bulk data traffic: “”Our collaboration represents significant improvements in latencies in the markets served by Angola Cables using our uniquely diverse route that brings the continents of Europe and Latin America together.”
