Subsea cable firm FLAG has acquired capacity on Google’s Echo cable.

The company this week announced the acquisition of a fiber pair on the Echo system from Google. Terms of the deal weren’t shared.

Targeted to be ready for service in mid-2026, the cable will link Singapore to the US via landing stations at Eureka, California; Piti, Guam; and Changi, Singapore.

“At FLAG, our vision has always been to deliver resilient, global connectivity solutions that empower customers. Our continued investment in new fiber links around the globe reflects this commitment,” said Carl Grivner, CEO of FLAG. “Once in service, Echo will be one of only two cables directly connecting Singapore to the US. By interconnecting it with our India Asia Express investment (India to Singapore), we are set to become the leading provider of India-to-US connectivity.”

The subsea cable, announced in 2021 and owned by Google and Meta, will span more than 17,000km. EdgeConnex is building a cable landing station for the Californian landing point in Eureka.

Subsea cable and data center operator Global Cloud Xchange rebranded to FLAG (Fibre Links Around the Globe) earlier this year. The firm offers capacity on the FA-1, HAWK, Falcon, MEDEX, FEA, IEX, and FNAL systems. The company also operates and/or offers capacity in cable landing stations in Taiwan, Japan, France, the UK, and the US. FLAG also offers modular data center services.

In June, the company secured a $340 million refinancing package and said it is “set to announce significant investments from Asia to Europe and throughout the Middle East.”
