The US subsea cable landing station (CLS) for the US-Singapore Bifrost cable system has gone live in Oregon.

Flexential this week announced that the Bifrost Cable System’s CLS in Winema, Oregon, which is connected to the colo provider's infrastructure, is now ready for service.

The project is the third multi-tenant cable system to terminate in Flexential’s Hillsboro campus.

The CLS is built and owned by Astound Broadband and controlled by an affiliate of Amazon Web Services (AWS). Astound last month completed a 108-mile underground fiber route along Highway 6, running from the CLS located south of Pacific City to Hillsboro. The company said the project was partially funded by AWS’ investment in the Bifrost submarine cable system.

First announced in 2021, the 16,000-kilometer-long Bifrost will have landing points in the US, Guam, Indonesia, and Singapore, as well as Mexico and the Philippines.

Developed in partnership with Keppel, Amazon, Meta, and Telkom Indonesia, the cable was originally scheduled to be operational by Q2 2024 but has since been pushed back to the second half of 2025.

“Subsea cables transmit 99 percent of intercontinental Internet traffic, and Hillsboro is a prime geographic gateway to the Asia Pacific (APAC) region,” said Ryan Mallory, chief operating officer at Flexential. “By hosting the Bifrost Cable System, we are future-proofing our customers’ businesses and demonstrating our commitment to long-term connectivity and resilient digital infrastructure.”

Cable landing stations for the Bifrost cable system are to be located in Grover Beach, California; Alupang, Guam; Tuas, Singapore; Winema, Oregon; Rosarito, Mexico; Davao, Philippines; Manado, Indonesia; and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Bifrost’s cable landing station in Singapore will be sited at Keppel DC REIT’s SGP 5 data center in Jurong. Telkom Indonesia’s Telin unit is developing a CLS outside Manado on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and another CLS in Jakarta.
