Hawaiki Signs Deal With Australia's Anycast

By Sam VargheseNew Zealand submarine cable system operator Hawaiki Submarine Cable has signed a deal with Australian wholesale network provider Anycast Networks whereby the latter will use its year-old cable system as a primary source of capacity between Australia and the US.
Anycast sells virtualised one-to-many services on ethernet to businesses in Australia and abroad, with a network that spans Australia, the Asia-Pacific region, the UK and the US.
Anycast chief executive Tom Berryman said in a joint statement from the two companies that the carrier-neutral nature of the Hawaiki cable was the reason why his company had opted to use it.
“Specifically, this deal with Hawaiki gives us more direct access to the US at competitive prices, enabling even more flexibility across the Anycast service portfolio including, and significantly, our Virtual ISP platform,” Berryman added.
“It will also enable us to deliver better customer services on our ethernet platform over the Hawaiki cable to Oregon, Seattle, San Jose, and Los Angeles with latency as low as 133ms RTT, including the ability to enter a new market in less than 24 hours.”
Virtual ISP makes it easier for managed service providers and ISPs to supplement their physical networks in order to improve service to customers.
Hawaiki chief executive Remi Galasso Remi Galasso said Anycast was the kind of agile and innovative customer the cable was built to service.
“We look forward to helping Anycast realise further opportunities for innovation and growth as demand for capacity continues to rise sharply throughout Oceania, the Pacific and internationally,” he said.
The Hawaiki cable system was launched in July 2018.
