RTI Press Release
April 13, 2022
Singapore / San Francisco – 13 April 2022. RTI Group Companies (“RTI”), the only independent trans-pacific cable owner and operator, appoints Laura Nelson-Cepeda, as Vice President, Strategic Initiatives. Nelson-Cepeda joins RTI’s globally diverse leadership team whose directors and officers are presently located in San Francisco, Honolulu, Tokyo, Singapore, and Sydney.
The addition of Guam is strategically important given its essential role in protecting RTI’s subsea cable investments, several of which land in Guam. Subsea cables are deemed critical infrastructure because they increase trade, improve research & education, enhance communications, and ensure digital security.
Nelson-Cepeda is an experienced executive with expertise in commercial strategy and marketing communications. She leads multiple complex international projects, often across a complicated and diverse set of stakeholders, and is integral to RTI’s ongoing expansion of critical infrastructure in Guam, and throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Russ Matulich, RTI’s Founder & CEO, enthusiastically celebrated her promotion noting, “Laura is an incredible addition to the Company’s senior leadership team. She’s a results-oriented executive, driven by integrity, and focused on quality. She joins a team who share her similar values which include working collaboratively to solve complex infrastructure problems while focusing intently on improving our communities.”
Prior to joining RTI in 2021, Nelson-Cepeda held numerous leadership positions in different private sectors, helping launch and implement several impactful initiatives. Her entrepreneurial spirit led to the creation and co-founding of several companies between 2012 to 2020, many of which were focused on community engagement, quality-of-life improvement and job creation. She remains an active member on various community boards and professional organizations and currently serves as Past President for the Guam Women's Chamber of Commerce and is on the Board of Directors for the Guam Visitor’s Bureau.
Nelson-Cepeda holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing from Chaminade University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Guam.
