Equinix, a digital infrastructure company, will provide data center services to Globonet, in order to connect the Malbec submarine cable system between Brazil and Argentina. GlobeNet, responsible for the cable implementation, selected the International Business Exchange Equinix SP2 and SP4 data centers, in São Paulo, to deploy additional POPs in Brazil.
With more than 26 thousand km, the Malbec cable promises to double the connectivity capacity available to Argentina. It will connect Argentina with Brazil, the United States, the Americas and Europe. The cable will take advantage of Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM), as well as the latest generation of repeaters and transponders.
Malbec is expected to improve Internet service providers’ reliability and resilience. According to estimates by NERA Economic Consulting, the new cable will increase Internet penetration in Argentina by 6% and in Brazil by 3%.
