OMS Opens Singapore Remote Survey Operations Centre

OMS Group has opened a Remote Operations Centre in Singapore for OMS Geometra, its marine survey business. Announced on September 22, 2026, the shore facility will support the company's expanding fleet of long-range Unmanned Surface Vessels and cable-route surveys conducted to full ocean depth. OMS is using the centre as an operational base from which it can scale unmanned survey delivery across projects in different parts of the world.

The centre places vessel pilots, marine survey specialists and project personnel in the same working environment. Teams ashore can follow vessel activity, examine incoming information while it is being collected and manage several craft operating in separate locations. OMS expects this arrangement to limit the number of people exposed to offshore conditions while keeping vessel control and survey production closely coordinated. Missions remain under continuous professional watchkeeping rather than operating as unsupervised autonomous deployments.

More than 60 representatives from technology, telecommunications, government agencies and the subsea cable sector attended the opening. OMS Geometra demonstrated how the Singapore hub can support future campaigns involving multiple USVs. For cable owners and survey contractors, the model offers a way to extend survey capacity without placing a complete specialist team aboard every craft, while retaining the live data review and operational control required for critical infrastructure work. OMS describes the ROC as part of its survey division, not a separate technology unit.

The facility follows OMS investments during 2026 in vessels, sea acceptance work and pilot training. Certified Master Mariners will operate the USVs, with credentials meeting or exceeding the STCW II/2 Master 500 GT level. The centre has also passed an inspection based on IMCA M272, the industry guidance for remote-operation facilities supporting unmanned vessels. Its framework was developed with changing international rules for remotely operated and autonomous vessels in mind. OMS said its next steps for planned campaigns are additional vessel deployments, more specialist training and strategic partnerships, extending OMS Geometra's role in the group's end-to-end digital infrastructure services.
