Orange Tunisia has announced the operational launch of the MEDUSA submarine cable in Tunisia, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s international connectivity and digital infrastructure.

The telecommunications operator said the activation of the cable will enhance Tunisia’s connection to international networks while supporting the country’s long-term digital transformation objectives. The project is expected to improve connectivity capacity, network resilience and access to major digital hubs in Europe.

Orange Tunisia owns the Tunisian section of the MEDUSA submarine cable as well as the cable landing station located in Bizerte. The company said the investment forms part of its strategy to deploy next-generation telecommunications infrastructure capable of supporting growing data traffic and digital services.

The MEDUSA cable is designed to provide additional international bandwidth and strengthen redundancy within Tunisia’s connectivity infrastructure. By increasing the number of international routes available to operators and businesses, the cable is expected to improve service reliability and reduce the risk of network disruptions.

The new infrastructure also enhances Tunisia’s connectivity with key European digital centres, providing faster and more resilient links for businesses, internet service providers and digital platforms operating in the country.

Industry observers view submarine cable investments as critical infrastructure for supporting cloud services, data centres, digital businesses and growing internet demand. Improved international connectivity also plays an important role in attracting investment and enabling the development of digital economies.
