China Mobile-Led and Invested SEA-H2X International Submarine Cable Project Launches Commercially, Paving the Way for Digital and Intelligent Interconnectivity in Asia-Pacific

China Mobile International has moved the SEA-H2X submarine cable from construction into commercial service, completing system acceptance for a new route across Greater China and Southeast Asia. The project was led and invested in by China Mobile, which says it will operate the network operations centre for the system.

SEA-H2X links Hainan and Hong Kong with the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore. Its trunk route extends about 5,746 kilometres and uses eight fibre pairs, with a design capacity above 200 Tbps. China Mobile has built four trunk fibre pairs between Hong Kong and Singapore, together with branches to Hainan, the Philippines and Thailand. Those assets give the operator more than 100 Tbps of dedicated bandwidth at launch.

The cable is intended to add another regional path for international traffic while giving China Mobile a platform for monitoring, fault diagnosis and performance management. The operator plans to combine SEA-H2X with other Asia-Pacific cable systems and its wider terrestrial, points-of-presence and data-centre footprint.

For the region, the commercial milestone is more consequential than a shore-end landing alone: it confirms the system can now carry service across the route. China Mobile says the network will support lower-latency connectivity between China and Southeast Asia and strengthen the resilience of its wider international communications network. The launch also connects the cable to the operator's broader digital-infrastructure strategy across the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Europe.
