PNG DataCo Limited (DataCo) has announced the successful completion of its Internet Gateway (IGW) upgrade and traffic migration onto the new 100Gbps PPC-1 submarine cable link.
The upgrade, which began two months ago, was completed on schedule, enhancing internet connectivity across the nation.
The newly implemented 100Gbps link now provides significantly improved internet access from Papua New Guinea to Australia via the PPC-1 submarine cable from Madang and the Coral Sea Cable System 2 (052) from Port Moresby.
DataCo confirmed that most internet traffic from the Highlands, Momase, and Niugini Islands regions will now primarily utilize the PPC-1 link, as it offers the most direct route to upstream internet providers. Conversely, traffic from Port Moresby and the Southern Region will default to the Coral Sea Cable System 2, with PPC-1 serving as a secondary option.
“We are closely monitoring our IGW and IP networks to ensure uninterrupted service following these enhancements,” stated Paul Komboi, Chief Executive Officer of DataCo.
He expressed gratitude to customers and the public for their patience during the upgrade period.
This upgrade marks a significant step forward in improving digital infrastructure in Papua New Guinea, ensuring that residents and businesses can access reliable and faster internet services.
