Telin began construction Thursday of a cable landing station in Kalasey, Minahasa, which will strengthen the digital backbone of Manado, Indonesia's second international connectivity gateway. As Telkom Indonesia's international arm, this is part of Telin's continued work on its segment of the Bifrost Cable System.

Manado, located in the province of Sulawesi, is being developed to support the digital and economic development of the country's eastern region. As a major hub, Telin hopes that building connectivity in Manado will attract telecom operators, OTT providers, cloud service providers and data centers.

The new cable landing station in Minahasa secures Manado as a key global connectivity point, according to Bogi Witjaksono, Telkom Group's director of wholesale and international services.

“This second gateway in East Indonesia will not only strengthen our network but also create new opportunities for economic development and digital transformation in the Asia Pacific region.” Witjaksono said in a statement.

Telin owns the Jakarta segment as well as part of the Manado branch of the nearly 20,000-kilometer Bifrost Cable System, the transpacific submarine cable network that directly connects Singapore to the west coast of North America via Indonesia through the Java Sea and Celebes Sea.
