Telxius Opens Northern Virginia Facility
Telxius Press Release
December 5, 2019
Northern Virginia, US – 5 December 2019— Telxius, the communications infrastructure company of the Telefónica Group, announces today the opening of a new facility at Tysons Corner in Northern Virginia.
More than two years ago, Telxius chose Virginia Beach as the site to build the first transatlantic Cable Landing Station (CLS) in the Mid-Atlantic region, which today hosts the two highest capacity submarine cables in the world, MAREA, connecting Sopelana, Spain to Virginia Beach, US and BRUSA, connecting Fortaleza, Spain to Virginia Beach, US. MAREA’s 200 Tbps transmission capacity together with BRUSA’s 138 Tbps equals that of the top 10 hub cities in the world combined, ranked by international capacity. From the Virginia Beach CLS, these subsea cables are directly connected to main data center campuses in Ashburn, Richmond, and Phoenix, enhancing Telxius communications capabilities in the US.
The arrival of MAREA and BRUSA have made Virginia Beach a key point for transatlantic communications, and have acted as catalysts for additional economic development in Northern Virginia. As a result of these cables, the region is undergoing another infrastructure boom, which has led to continuous growth in the data center market, and the development of new terrestrial fiber networks. With its expanded commercial presence in the region, Telxius will be closer to its local customers and partners and better able to collaborate with the growing number of high-tech companies in the region.
“I am very pleased to announce the opening of our Tysons Corner Northern Virginia office,” said Gerardo Bonilla, Head of Sales, Telxius Cable Business. “Establishing a commercial presence in the leading data center market in the world will allow us to better serve our customers and create many new business opportunities globally.”
Telxius will officially inaugurate its Virginia headquarters next week with an opening event that is being organized in collaboration with InterGlobix and JSA. The event will gather together representatives from major high-tech companies in Virginia and across the world. These industry experts will engage in panel discussions and presentations focused on how the new subsea cables are enhancing the connectivity of Virginia to the rest of the world. Industry’s premier Data Center & Connectivity publication, InterGlobix Magazine, will be available at the event.
