Telconet has landed the CSN-1 submarine cable in Barranquilla, Colombia.
It is the first in a decade to reach the Colombian coast.
CSN-1, developed by Telconet in collaboration with Alcatel Submarine Networks, is a high-capacity fiber optic system that connects the west coast of Florida (USA) with Panama, Ecuador, and Colombia, through a route of approximately 4,500km (2,796 miles).
The Colombian branch, which reaches Playa Salgar near Barranquilla, is about 525km (326 miles) long and has four fiber pairs offering a design capacity of close to 20Tbps. It is set to launch next year.
Telconet chose Vertiv to build a landing station in Barranquilla, which will function as an Edge Data Center, providing server hosting services with high capacity and electrical redundancy, thus strengthening the resilience and quality of connectivity in the region.
In addition to the CSN-1, another cable, the Trans Americas Fiber System's TAM-1, is expected to arrive soon, and its installation is already 50 percent complete in its southern section, which will further strengthen Colombia's international connectivity.
Work on the cable landing station for CNS-1 in Panama has begun. ProPanama, the Panama Government's investment promotion agency, recently announced Telconet has broken ground on a 1.5MW, 160-rack data center.
