Equinix Announces Third Data Center in India
The new Data Center will be Equinix's third data center in Mumbai, and expected to open in Q2 2024

The US-headquartered data center company Equinix has announced an initial investment of US$86 million to build a new data center in Mumbai. The firm has acquired 4 acre land in Mumbai's Chandivali area. The new data center-to be named MB3-Will be Equinix's third data center facility in Mumbai, and also located close to the company's two existing facilities.
The first phase of MB3 is scheduled to open in Q2 2024 providing an initial capacity of more than 1,375 cabinets, and more than 4,150 cabinets when fully build out. When fully built, it is expected to provide about 24MW IT load.
As the financial and commerce hub of India, Mumbai is the country's top data center market and is expected to grow over 2.5 times to nearly 530 megawatts (MW) by 2023 as per a recent report by JLL. Mumbai hosts a dozen subsea cable landing points and the most cloud regions of global major cloud service providers.
“The increasing digitization of economy is continuously driving the demand for data center and interconnection service in India. Particularly in Mumbai, the high demand for digital infrastructure services among Indian and international customers is making us very optimistic about the market. We are focused on further investments in building the infrastructure in India to enable our existing and new customers in India to launch their services closer to their customers,” said Manoj Paul, Managing Director, Equinix India.
In March, Equinix announced the acquisition of 5.5 acre land in Chennai for setting up a data center.
Equinix made its official India foray last September through the acquisition of the India operations of GPXS Global Systems for $161 Million. The deal included the acquisition of two Mumbai-based data canter buildings of GPX.
Globally, Equinix operates over 240 data centers across 70 metros, providing digital infrastructure for more than 10,0000 of the world's leading businesses. In Asia-Pacific, Equinix currently has 52 data centers in key metros across Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea and Singapore.
