Google Argentina announced that the Tannat trans-Atlantic undersea cable connecting Brazil and Uruguay will be extended from Maldonado in Uruguay to the nearby coastal city of Las Toninas in the Buenos Aires province. The new landing point is located at the mouth Rio de la Plata on the Atlantic Ocean and the extension will be rolled out jointly with Uruguayan operator Antel and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN). Google added that the branch will be completed in August 2020 with a view to improving the connectivity and experience of all Argentine consumers and companies that use its products.
The 2,000 km cable has been operational since 2018 and is designed to complement the Monet system, connecting Santos in Brazil to Boca Raton in the US.
