Cable Cut: MainOne Completes Repairs, Reinstates W/Africa’s Internet Connectivity

MainOne, a provider of undersea fiber optic internet connectivity in West Africa, has announced the successful repair of its submarine cable system. The issue with the cable which occurred on March 14, 2024, disrupted internet services across the region.
MainOne, now part of Equinix, collaborated with regional partners, maintenance providers, vessel owners, and permitting authorities to expedite the repairs. Their combined efforts ensured the restoration of the cable system with the utmost integrity.
To minimise customer impact during the outage, MainOne implemented rerouting measures and provided additional network capacity. Funke Opeke, MainOne’s Managing Director, expressed her gratitude to all involved. “We are incredibly thankful for the support and collaboration of our partners, the patience of our valued customers, and the unwavering commitment of our team,” she said.
