Users in parts of the Philippines experienced slow or intermittent internet connectivity amid a reported disruption affecting international network segments, according to GMA News. Its report, published on October 2, 2026, cited advisories from PADECO, Converge, and the UP Diliman Network Help Desk concerning Philippines-Singapore and Philippines-Hong Kong segments. The Department of Information and Communications Technology was investigating the cause, while telecommunications providers were working to restore affected segments and maintain service.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the cause remained undetermined and that connectivity had not been completely lost. He also said no impact on critical infrastructure had been reported. Those statements distinguish the reported disruption from a complete loss of connectivity. The available information confirms user complaints and provider advisories, but it does not establish a fault location or explain what caused the affected international segments to experience disruption.

On the capacity side, PLDT said it had enough alternate capacity to cover approximately 300 Gbit/s of lost capacity. This is a specific provider statement about its ability to accommodate the reported loss, not confirmation that every affected connection had returned to normal. Alongside the continuing work by telecommunications providers, the statement offers a commercial and technical detail about maintaining service while the cause remained under investigation.

A corroborating public report from Philstar Tech said monitoring showed elevated latency between the Philippines and Singapore. That monitoring did not identify a cable or independently establish a physical fault. Philstar Tech also reported that the relationship between user complaints and the reported disruption remained unclear. The evidence therefore supports reporting the advisories and observed latency separately, rather than treating them as independent verification of physical damage or a confirmed explanation for all reported connectivity problems.

The incident’s industry significance lies in the reported effects on international connectivity and the role of alternate capacity in maintaining service during disruption. Its current status remains an active DICT investigation accompanied by provider restoration work. No repair ETA or restoration confirmation is available, and no next dated milestone has been confirmed. Reporting remains limited to the affected segments described in advisories, the provider capacity statement, and the monitoring observations; no cable identity or physical fault has been independently established.
