PNG Earthquake Causing Multiple Cable Disruptions

To Our Valued Customers & General Public:

PNG DataCo Limited (DataCo)  would like to advise all our Valued Customers and the general public that DataCo is facing multiple service disruptions following the 7.7 Magnitude Earthquake this morning (Sunday 11 September 2022) at 9:46am. It has affected the operations of the Kumul Submarine Cable Network (KSCN) Express Link between Port Moresby and Madang and the PPC-1 Cable between Madang and Sydney. Customers in Momase, Highlands and the New Guinea Islands Regions connected through Madang would be affected.

Our engineers are working with our partners to investigate and establish the extent of any possible damages to our digital infrastructure and work on short-term relief measures.

DataCo sincerely apologizes for the outage and degraded service and will provide further advise following the initial investigations.

PNG DataCo Limited (DataCo) would like to advise all our Valued Customers and the general public with the updates of the disruption Services that DataCo have multiple breakages between 17km to 170 km outside of Madang:

  • PPC-1 International Link.
  • KSCN System 1 – MOMASE and New Guinea Islands Rgion
  • KSCN System 2 – Express Link Between Madang and Pom.

Services to Customers in Momase, Highlands and the New Guinea Islands Regions connected through Madang would be affected by these cable breaks.

DataCo would like to thank our customers for your patience and understanding during this natural disaster and difficult times.

Our engineers are now working with our partners to further investigate on detailed locations to develop restoration plans.
