Work Apace to Fix Ruptured Submarine Cable

Relaying of cable along the 600-metre stretch between Kundannoor Junction and the bridge towards Aroor is in progress to bring back vital connectivity after piling for the flyover at the junction had ruptured the South-East Asia – West Asia – Western Europe-3 optical submarine telecommunications cable, known as SEA-ME-WE 3, early on Monday morning. Sources in Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) said they aimed at restoring connectivity latest by Thursday.
“It is a vital cable, the longest in the world, witnessing heavy traffic. And, we have a host of high-value customers, including ISRO. That is why we got down to work as soon as the rupture was reported. It requires a special method of joining cable ends which is progressing fast,” an official said.
The rupture had affected most telecom service providers. A similar rupture had occurred during the flyover construction at Kundannoor in September this year, but that was rectified soon in a matter of a few hours.
