Subco Reports Concurrent Perth Cable Faults

Subco has reported concurrent faults affecting two cables in the Perth area and called for an investigation while the operator prepares a physical inspection. The Maritime Executive reported that the outages occurred in a government-designated cable protection zone and involved two Subco systems in the same area.

The cause of the faults has not been established. Subco says the affected cables do not have automatic diagnostic systems, so the operator will need to arrange a physical inspection before it can determine the mechanism of damage. That limitation is important: any explanation for the faults remains unconfirmed until the inspection is complete.

The report noted the track of a vessel that crossed the cable zone around the time of the outages, but it also quoted Subco's chief executive saying the activity could be coincidental. This post therefore does not assign responsibility to a vessel, person, state, or other actor. It records only the verified operational development: two cable outages have been reported and the operator has requested an investigation.

The event is a new fault episode rather than a repeat of earlier Indigo coverage.
