Internet users across Pakistan experienced service disruptions on Saturday due to submarine cable cuts in Saudi waters near Jeddah, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) confirmed.

In a statement issued on social media, PTCL said the incident has partially impacted bandwidth capacity on two major undersea cable systems — SMW4 and IMEWE.

“Submarine cable cuts have occurred in Saudi waters near Jeddah, impacting partial bandwidth capacity on SMW4 and IMEWE systems. As a result, internet users in Pakistan may experience some service degradation during peak hours,” the company stated.

PTCL added that its international partners are working on a priority basis to fix the issue, while local teams are arranging alternative bandwidth routes to minimize the disruption.

According to data from Down Detector, reports of internet outages spiked on Saturday morning. Complaints peaked at 10:09 AM with 16 reports, followed by another surge at 2:00 PM with at least 14 additional cases.

The company assured users that restoration work is underway and expressed gratitude for their patience during the ongoing disruption.
