The theme for the 2023 conference is Navigating the Open Seas – Collaboration on our Critical Infrastructure. Since the SubOptic 2019 conference, major worldwide shifts have further highlighted the criticality of subsea cables as part of our global infrastructure. The pandemic of 2020 has created a new age of remote working, and the impact our industry has on facilitating the global digital economy is more important than ever before. Fundamental changes that require cross-industry collaboration are needed to keep pace with the growth in demand being experienced by the submarine industry. Closing the digital divide via increased connectivity and access is underway with new systems being built across the world, and as the industry builds an ever-expanding subsea infrastructure, the environmental and social responsibility of the subsea community is essential.
